Status and Commissioning-results of Bessy Ii

چکیده
The new Storage Ring BESSY II in Berlin Germany is a dedicated third generation synchrotron radiation source for the VUV and soft X-ray spectral range [1]. On April 22, 1998 a 1.7 GeV electron beam was stored for the first time. Despite a relatively short time for commissioning of the synchrotron radiation source, the milestones were met as scheduled. Accelerator parameters that determine the quality of the synchrotron radiation are as designed or the design goals were even exceeded. The only parameter that is still not according to design is the beam lifetime, as the baking of the vacuum system is not completed yet. The regular scientific program started according to plan in January 1999 with experiments. The front-end for 22 additional beamlines are installed and scheduled for use before the end of next year. Thus required shutdown periods will also be used to install additional hardware to improve the performance of the ring.

Establishment of a Model for Interpretation and Correction Tools for Bessy Ii
From the very beginning of the commissioning of the Synchrotron Radiation facility BESSY II, work has been facilitated by online interpretation and correction procedures that utilise a commonly accessible online model of the storage ring optics. The software covers all linear properties like beta functions, orbit correction, tune variation etc. Initially the model has been set up from construct...
متن کاملExperiences with Commissioning Software Tools at BESSY II
Software requirements evolve rapidly during the short commissioning period of a third generation light source. Main focus moves from atomic device control to complex conditioning, experiment performance, measurement data taking, beam quality maintenance and performance monitoring tasks. From the very beginning the essential tools have to be set up properly and need to be sufficiently adaptive t...
متن کاملParticle Swarm Optimization Algorithm Applied in Online Commissioning at the Mls and Bessy Ii
Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is a population based optimization technique inspired by the social behaviour of bird flocking [1]. This algorithm has been successfully used for beam dynamics simulations due to its excellent capability to deal with large-dimensional optimization problems [2, 3]. At the MLS and BESSY II PSO was first successfully applied to improve the lifetime by 20 ~ 30% wit...
متن کاملExperience with the Beam Position Monitor System of the Bessy Ii Storage Ring
The beam position monitor (BPM) system has been developed at BESSY and operates in 3 different modes: the closed orbit, the single turn, and the diagnostics mode. Details of the BPM system are presented together with the result of some bench tests. The commissioning of the system was done primarily with beam-based techniques and is described in more detail. First measurements of fast and slow b...
متن کاملThe Shielding Design of Bessy Ii
BESSY II consists of a 50 MeV microtron, a maximum energy synchrotron and the 1.9 GeV storage ring. The investigations of the radiation types occuring at those machines dependent of the electron energy, target and shielding materials, observating angles and geometric aspects are well established, often condensed in semi-empiric formulas and in good agreement with the results of the Monte Carlo ...
